Afridi returns today to face PCB body hearing

Former Pakistan limited-overs captain Shahid Afridi is due to return here on Sunday to sort out his cricketing problems after initiation of stern action by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Afridi, who led Pakistan in the World Cup semi-final in March this year, will appear before the PCB disciplinary committee through his legal firm Mandviwalla and Zafar Associates.
After the code of conduct breach, the Board came hard on Afridi by terminating his central contract and all his NOCs for playing overseas.
Meanwhile, welcoming banners for Afridi were seen in the different parts of the city, asking the fans to receive the all-rounder at the Jinnah International Airport on Sunday evening.
Also, former Test cricketers blamed the PCB for mishandling Afridi’s case which led to his retirement.
“I think Afridi shouldn’t have crossed the line at first. But if he had made the mistake, the PCB should have tackled the issue in a proper way,” former Test left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim said.
Former Test paceman Jalaluddin also blamed the PCB and touring management for handling the issue inappropriately.
“Incompetency within the Board is the main problem that has caused damage to the national team beyond repair,” he
lamented.
Former Test wicket-keeper Saleem Yousuf while terming the present PCB regime a weak decision-making body felt sorry for the state of affairs in the board.
He said if the PCB was not happy with Afridi’s captaincy after his poor individual performance during the West Indies then why they retained him for the two-match ODI series against Ireland.
“The PCB has never learnt from its mistakes that in turn have caused more problems,” Saleem concluded.—APP
