National women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir has been issued a warning by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for speaking her mind to the media.
It is being reported that the newly-contracted player recently told a reporter from a news agency that the women’s cricket team should have a woman coach, a statement which got her in trouble with the PCB.
“Sana Mir was only issued a warning by the board and not really a show-cause notice as is being said by several sources,” said PCB spokesman Nadeem Sarwar while speaking to Dawn on Friday.
Asked about the nature of the violation, he said: “Well, it is against the rules for any contractual player to speak to the media without prior permission from the board.”
Meanwhile, it is being said that Sana has already sent a reply to the PCB. Asked if she would be excused for the slight breach of contract, the spokesman said: “We will see.”
With the PCB Women’s Wing Chairperson Bushra Aitzaz on leave, Manager Ayesha Ashhar, too, declined to comment on the matter.
The PCB awarded central contracts in ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and retainership or stipend categories to 19 women cricketers on May 17. Sana Mir was included in category ‘A’ along with vice-captain Javeria Khan, Nain Abidi, Bismah Maroof and wicket-keeper Batool Fatima.
