PBSA affiliation with POA: top cueists likely to get employment

27th Asian Snooker Championship, asian snooker championship, Muhammad Sajjad, shahid aftab, snooker

Top eight cueists other than former national champion Mohammad Sajjad are likely to get employment when services and departments raise their teams in the near future to fulfill the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) requirement of granting affiliation to Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA).
The POA constitution lays down clearly that at least three properly constituted provincial associations duly affiliated with respective Olympic bodies and as many services/departments must be a member of a national federation to be eligible to be member of the POA.
“The PBSA has completed the first phase when its three provincial chapters got affiliation with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan Olympic Association,” the president PBSA, Alamgir Shaikh, told Dawn.
The official said he was in receipt of affiliation letters from Sindh and Balochistan Olympic associations after KP took the lead and granted affiliation to the provincial snooker body sometimes back.
Referring to affiliation of Punjab, he stated that their case was under process.
“I would be meeting officials of army, Wapda, railways etc which come under the umbrella of POA early next month seeking their support to form snooker teams for the uplift of game in the country,” he opined.
He was confident that the baize game would further prosper once the players get employment which also fulfills their long dream. Most of the snooker players come from a poor financial background.
It’s an irony that celebrity Mohammad Yousuf, who has all the titles under his belt, including world and Asian, remained jobless despite assurances from all high ups.
Sajjad, a former Asian No 2, has been enrolled with the National Bank for over two years now.
To a question, he said legal expert was studying the draft constitution as per POA requirement and once finalised, it will be presented before the PBSA general body for getting the nod soon.
Once amended, its nomenclature would be changed from Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) to Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF), he added
