The Sindh Sports Board (SSB) has increased the cash rewards for teams that won medals in the 31st National Games held in Peshawar in December 2010.
Acknowledging the point of view of the Sindh Netball Association (SNA) over the odd distribution of cash prizes to the winners, the SSB has come up with a solution a day ahead of the ceremony.
The SNA had complained about both the individuals and teams getting the same amounts leaving many team members at a disadvantage as they would hardly be getting anything after the distribution of the amount among so many people.
“I had another meeting with the Sindh Sports Minister Dr Mohammad Ali Shah today and we have decided to increase the amounts for bigger teams with 11-plus members,” informed Sindh’s Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui while speaking to Dawn on Friday.
“This means that the 14-member girls’ netball team that had returned with a silver medal, will now get Rs 50,000, which is double the amount it was to receive earlier,” he explained.
The SSB had earlier planned presenting Rs 50,000 for gold medalists, Rs 25,000 for silver medallists and Rs 15,000 for bronze medalists in both the individual and team events.
President Sindh Netball Association (SNA) Mudassar Arain has thanked both the provincial sports minister and secretary sports for taking prompt action over the issue.
The prize distribution ceremony takes place on Saturday
